BYKO has six physical stores around Iceland and a webshop that opened in 2012. BYKO has around 40.000 SKUs in total and around 17.000 SKUs are in the webshop today. BYKO started to build a new eCommerce solution with Advania that is integrated with  AX. 

The Challenge

Improving digital services to the customers 

BYKO focuses on improving their digital services to their customers through a user-friendly eCommerce solution. Their customers should be able to be as self-sufficient as possible through the web, where they can see their own purchase and transaction history, invoices, price contracts, credit status and credit limits. 

BYKO is a leading Icelandic business for both private home improvers as well as big construction contractors. BYKO was founded in 1962 when two friends opened the first store in Kópavogur, Iceland. Through the years, BYKO has grown outside the borders of Iceland by building up a dynamic lumber company in Latvia. 

BYKO is DIY/Hardware store with a wide range of products such as building materials, flooring, bathroom appliances, garden equipment, paint, tools, hardware, kitchen appliances, home products, door mats etc. The product focus has also been on offering good variety of products that follow environmentally friendly standards. BYKO focuses on both B2B and B2C services.

The web shop has to be integrated with BYKO’s various backend systems in order to complete the chain of their business processes. Their customers should be able to be as self-sufficient as possible through the web, where they can see their own purchase and transaction history, invoices, price contracts, credit status and credit limits. 

The Solution

The eCommerce solution gives their customers the ability to navigate through a range of BYKO’s products on a single platform

Products are created in AX where they are assigned prices and stock values, then they are exported to the PIM system where product managers flesh out the necessary product information needed before publishing the products to the webshop. 

The eCommerce solution gives their customers the ability to navigate through a range of BYKO’s products on a single platform, with the goal of eventually having all products accessible through the webshop.

The integration for this solution is quite complicated since it connects the DynamicWeb solution, AX and InRiver PIM. Products are created in AX where they are assigned prices and stock values, then they are exported to the PIM system where product managers flesh out the necessary product information needed before publishing the products to the webshop. When products are published over to the web they are imported through the DynamicWeb integration framework. 

The web shop uses a modified version of the Live Integration framework v1 to get calculated price and stock values from AX through live requests. The web shop offers various solutions for home improvers to plan their projects, such as calculators to evaluate the square meters of materials required and the cost.

BYKO runs a rental service for their customers where they can rent various tools and equipment. The product catalog for this service is displayed in the web shop so that customers can prepare before heading out to rent. 

Under “My pages” customers can view their purchase history, transaction information, get PDF invoices, an overview of their credit limit and status with BYKO and manage their customer information.  

DynamicWeb is a powerful “out of the box” and offers a variety of options related to content placement, product management, orders, user management, and marketing.

It is also possible to customize the functionality of the system as needed as well as connections to other systems. The user interface of the system is particularly convenient and simple for website staff to start using right away.

The web shop offers a good overview of BYKO’s product catalog and their customers rely on the presence of the web because of the easy access it gives them to the catalog. 

Customer trust is very important to BYKO, so it is important to keep their customers well informed about their products and their good qualities. BYKO emphasizes a good variety of products and has a good focus on sustainability and offers a good selection of eco-friendly products.
